The Certified Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurse (CWOCN®) is an advanced practice specialty for nurses in the United States accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and recognized long term care, home health, and outpatient.
To become a Certified Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurse (CWOCN®) requires nurses to successfully complete the Certified Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses examination for certification. Certified WOC nurses are considered experts in wound care who have met stringent national standards in education, practice, experience, ethics, professional growth and development, and patient care outcomes. Certified WOC nurses are required to maintain certification through continuing education.
Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses or WOC nurses are responsible for the treatment of patients with wounds or incontinence conditions. They also provide care to those who experience bladder or continence issues such as urination accidents because they don't want you touching your private parts too much! These professionals also work closely together so that no patient gets left behind when it comes time for their wound treatment plan
