Certified Nursing Assistant (CNAs)

A CNA, or Certified Nursing Assistant, is a member of an entry-level patient care team who performs important patient-centered tasks under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. Although CNAs are not nurses, they work closely with nurses. These occupations usually require a high school diploma and at least three years of experience in directly related work. An apprenticeship program may be associated with these occupations.

Nursing assistants provide basic care for patients in hospitals and residents of long-term care facilities. Orderlies transport patients and clean treatment areas. In order to become a certified nursing assistant, an individual must complete a state-approved education program and pass the state's competency exam. Orderlies need at least a high school diploma.
