CNA Jobs in DE

Delaware is one of the 50 states of the United States, in the Mid-Atlantic or Northeastern region. It is bordered to the south and west by Maryland; to the northeast by New Jersey; and to the north by Pennsylvania. The state takes its name from Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, an English nobleman, and Virginia’s first colonial governor.

Delaware occupies the northeastern portion of the Delmarva Peninsula and is the second smallest, the sixth least populous, but the sixth most densely populated of the 50 United States. Delaware is divided into three counties; from north to south, New Castle, Kent, and Sussex. While the southern two counties have historically been predominantly agricultural, New Castle County has been more industrialized.

Originally home to various tribes of Native Americans, Delaware was settled by Dutch traders at Zwaanendael in 1631. It was initially colonized by Dutch settlers in 1638, it was taken over by the British in 1664. Delaware was one of the 13 colonies participating in the American Revolution. On December 7, 1787, Delaware became the first state to ratify the Constitution of the United States and has been a keystone state since 1818.

Situated on the north bank of the Delaware River, midway between New York City and Philadelphia, New Castle developed with less access to water transportation than other parts of the state. As a result, the city was relatively lightly populated. Its prime location did attract much settlement in the early days; however, mostly by Europeans who preferred living in more temperate climates. In time, they came to increasingly depend on slave labor for prosperity. The state was named after the Delaware River, which in turn derived its name from Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr (1577–1618), an English nobleman and Virginia’s first colonial governor.
