CNA Jobs in MI

In terms of the size of its land, Michigan ranks only 22nd out of 50 states, the inclusion of the waters of the Great Lakes, over which it is under the jurisdiction, greatly increases its area, placing it in 11th place in total area. The capital is Lansing, in south-central Michigan. The name of the state comes from Michi-gama, an Ojibwa word (chippewa) meaning “great lake”. In fact, for most Michigan residents, the right hand pointing up serves as a ready-made map to roughly locate cities, routes, regions, parks, or any other feature of the lower peninsula.

The two landmasses have been connected since 1957 by the “Big Mac,” a 5-mile (8 km) Mackinac Bridge that spans the Mackinac Strait and divides Lake Michigan to the west and Lake Huron to the east separated. Between Lakes Huron and Erie in the southeast, the Lower Peninsula is separated from Ontario, Canada by Lake St. Clair and St. Clair and Detroit Rivers. The St. Mary’s River, which flows from Lake Superior to Lake Huron, forms the international border between the Upper Peninsula and Ontario.

Since it entered the market on January 26, 1837, as the 26th state of the Union and the 4th state branched from the Northwest Territories, Michigan has become the key to the economic life of the United States; the name of its largest city, Detroit, has become a worldwide synonymous with the automotive industry. The state has also retained its importance in agriculture and, to a lesser extent, forestry. In addition, numerous inland lakes, borders with four of the Great Lakes, and many wilderness areas make Michigan one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States. Michigan’s population is primarily urban, concentrated in the industrial centers of the southern lower peninsula. Many are drawn to union-dominated labor groups, and the state’s urban population reflects a wide range of racial, economic, educational, and professional backgrounds.

This socio-economic diversity has created an environment in which wealth and poverty often coexist side by side; nowhere is this more evident than in the Detroit metropolitan area. The state government is coordinating a large network of programs to reduce these conflicts. Michigan’s public higher education system has consistently been one of the strongest, most diverse, and most respected in the nation.
