LPN Jobs in ND
North Dakota was admitted to the union as the 39th state on November 2, 1889. A north-central state, it is bounded by the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba to the north and by the U.S. states of Minnesota to the east, South Dakota to the south, and Montana to the west. The North Dakota town of Rugby is considered to be the geographic center of the North American continent. Bismarck, located in the center of the state, is the capital. The state’s name derives from the Dakota division of the Sioux peoples who inhabited the plains before the arrival of the Europeans in the 18th century.
The economy has historically been based on the abundant agricultural production from the rich, black soil of the Dakota plains. North Dakota produces many cereal grain crops and is quite successful as a producer of condensed milk products such as sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and dried milk.
The economy has seen some growth in recent years due to an oil boom fuelled by fracking technologies. The North Dakota oil rush has brought many residents of other states to the state in search of work, but some people have complained that this influx has resulted in inflated housing prices and traffic jams.
North Dakota is known for its cold winters and harsh conditions. Temperatures can fall as low as -60 degrees Fahrenheit (-51° Celsius), causing wind chill factors that make it feel even colder. Winter storms are common, and the snowfall averages 30 inches (76 cm) annually. Popular activities during the long winter include ice fishing, ski-jumping competitions, and coed curling events.
North Dakota is home to several national parks located within its borders. The Lewis & Clark National Park between North Dakota and Montana commemorates the historic journey of the Lewis & Clark expedition across America from 1804 to 1806. The park includes a site where both explorers are buried alongside their Native American guide.
