North Dakota was admitted to the union as the 39th state on November 2, 1889. North Dakota is home to several national parks located within its borders. The Lewis & Clark National Park between North Dakota and Montana commemorates the historic journey of the Lewis & Clark expedition across America from 1804 to 1806. The park includes a site where both explorers are buried alongside their Native American guide.
