Connecticut was one of the original 13 states and one of the six states in New England. Connecticut is located in the northeastern part of the country. It ranks 48th out of the 50 U.S. states by total area, but is one of the most densely populated.

From 1635 until its dissolution in 1664, it was also the first capital of the Connecticut colony, making it one of the oldest states.
Connecticut has very close economic ties to New York, Los Angeles and Boston. The state is geographically part of the New York metropolitan area. Minorities in Connecticut include Irish-Americans, Italians, Polish-Americans, European immigrants from many countries, and Hispanics.
In 1798, when Connecticut ratified the United States Constitution and became a state, it became known as the “State of the Constitution.” In 1959, the name was changed to “Constitutional State”.
