LPN Jobs in Goodyear, AZ

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) are an essential part of a medical facility's nursing team. They perform basic patient care, monitor patients' conditions, collect data from physicians and report this information to registered nurses and give patients their medications as directed by the physician or nurse practitioner. LPNs work with people suffering from a variety of diseases, ranging from the common cold to potentially life-threatening traumas. LPNs also can work in the community providing preventative healthcare screenings and teaching patients about wellness.

LPNs work as part of a healthcare team under the direction of registered nurses (RNs) and physicians to provide basic medical care to patients. LPN training takes around 12 to 16 months. LPNs may receive additional training in order to work in a specialty area, such as long-term care or pediatrics. LPNs must be licensed by the state in which they wish to practice. LPNs are required to renew their licenses every two years. LPNs should pass a criminal background check and have no felony convictions on their records before receiving a license from the state. LPNs must complete continuing education courses every two years in order to maintain their licenses.

Long-term care facilities often require that LPNs complete additional training so they can work with dementia patients or bedridden individuals. LPN salaries range widely based on location, facility and experience.

About Goodyear

Goodyear is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. It is a suburb of Phoenix and had a population of 65,275 at the 2010 census. It was the third fastest-growing city in Arizona between 1990 and 2000.

The city is home to the Goodyear Ballpark, where Major League Baseball's Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds hold spring training. In 2008, Goodyear received an All-American City Award sponsored by the National Citizens League. The city is named after the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. The company once cultivated large tracts of farmland here, growing cotton for tires.

Goodyear is known as the spring training ground for professional baseball teams. The MLB American League Cleveland Guards moved their spring training facility from Winter Haven, Florida to Goodyear and joined the Cactus League in February 2009 after a 15-year absence. Before that, the Guard (then called the Indians) held spring training in Tucson for many years. On April 7, 2008, the Goodyear City Council unanimously approved a memorandum to provide a new $33 million spring baseball training facility for Major League Baseball's Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guards.

This includes the 10,000-seat Goodyear Ballpark, which opened in 2009. The Reds and Guardians have separate offices, clubs, and training grounds.

The Guardians spent years in Tucson for spring training until they moved to Winter Haven in 1993. In 2006, they decided to move their spring training facility in Arizona back to Goodyear. The Goodyear Centennial Team of the Liberal Baseball League plays its home game at the Goodyear Ballpark. Two other Arizona General League baseball teams also play at the stadium: the Arizona General League Guardians and the Arizona General League Redskins.
