LPN Jobs in Houston, TX

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)

Licensed practical nurses are an essential part of the nursing team in a variety of healthcare facilities. They provide basic care, monitor patient conditions and collect data from physicians for registered nurses’ review. They also administer medications under the supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner. LPNs work with patients suffering from a wide range of medical conditions, ranging from colds to potentially fatal injuries. LPNs can also work in the community providing preventative health screenings and teaching patients about wellness.

LPNs may attend vocational or technical schools to earn their diplomas. On average, an LPN program lasts 12–15 months. Upon graduation, an LPN must pass a criminal background check and have no felony convictions on his/her records. Once licensed by the state, the LPN must complete continuing education courses every two years in order to maintain his/her license.

Long-term care facilities may require Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) employees to complete additional training before working with residents who are receiving dementia treatment or who are bedridden. LPNs' salaries vary widely according to location, facility and years of experience.
