LPN Jobs in TN
Tennessee is located in the upper South of the eastern United States and became the 16th state of the union in 1796. The geography of Tennessee is unique. Its extreme breadth of 432 miles (695 km) stretches from the Appalachian Mountain boundary with North Carolina in the east to the Mississippi River borders with Missouri and Arkansas in the west; its narrow width, only 112 miles (180 km), separates its northern neighbors, Kentucky and Virginia, from Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, to the south. Nashville is the capital and Memphis is the largest city. The geographic diversity of Tennessee has led to a number of distinctions in state history: earliest inhabitants were known as Paleoindians; first major settlement was established at the confluence of the Tennessee River and the Ohio River within which lies southwestern Tennessee; the state became part of Confederate States of America during War between the States in 1861.
The climate is generally characterized by relatively high temperatures and evenly distributed precipitation throughout the year. The state is classified as humid subtropical because cold winter air can penetrate farther south than in other humid subtropical climates. Annual precipitation ranges from 45 inches (1143 mm) in the lower eastern section to approximately 55 inches (1397 mm) along the Cumberland Plateau.
Because of its size and diversity, Tennessee is home to several different climate types: four distinct regions: Gulf Coast Plain: generally flat with fertile soils; Tennessee Valley: a long, narrow valley running from the southwest corner to the northeast corner and drained by the Tennessee River; Appalachian Plateau: an area of rolling hills and valleys in westernmost Tennessee and Kentucky and along the borders with North Carolina and Virginia; Great Smoky Mountains: a wide mountainous region between Tennessee and North Carolina.
Summers in Tennessee are generally hot and humid with daytime temperatures averaging more than 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) across the state. Winter is generally mild to cool, dropping below freezing at night. Temperatures usually range between 30 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit (-1 to 10 Celsius), but can be as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit (-6 Celsius).
