LPN Jobs in WA
Washington is at the northwestern corner of the 48 conterminous states, it is bounded by the Canadian province of British Columbia to the north, the U.S. states of Idaho to the east and Oregon to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The capital is Olympia, located at the southern end of Puget Sound in the western part of the state. The state’s coastal location and excellent harbors give it a leading role in trade with Alaska, Canada, and countries of the Pacific Rim. Washington cities have sister cities in several countries, and their professional and trade associations commonly include partnerships between cities in other nations
The first Europeans to visit the area were Spanish explorers in the late 18th century – they gave the region its name, after George Washington. A settlement was attempted by British colonists shortly thereafter but was abandoned when it proved unsuccessful. Early government officials of what is now Washington included fur traders of various nationalities and later, American settlers moving westwards.
Washington was established as a territory in 1853 and as a state in 1889, the 42nd to be admitted to the union. Washington is sometimes called Washington State to distinguish it from Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States of America which is often shortened to simply ‘Washington’.
