Medical/Surgical Jobs in LA

Medical-surgical nursing is the single largest specialty in the United States. Medical-surgical nurses provide care to adults with a broad range of medical issues or who are preparing for/recovering from surgery. These nurses have advanced organizational, prioritization, assessment and communication skills and work closely with other members of the health care team.

Medical-surgical nurses practice across a wide range of healthcare settings. They are largely responsible for the care of acutely or chronically ill patients, those who have undergone surgery, and people with disabilities.

To become a surgical or perioperative nurse, you may need to earn an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in nursing. The length of the program will depend on your previous education and whether you are pursuing on-campus or online classes; 2-5 years is typical.

Because of their heavy patient care responsibilities, med-surg nurses must follow an interdisciplinary plan of care. This entails collaboration with and communication among the primary care physician (PCP), an internist, an anesthesiologist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, technicians, and social work.

Nursing is a field with a bright and promising future. Nursing professionals can earn good salaries. The average pay for nurses working in medical-surgical settings is $77,000 per year, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
