New Mexico became the 47th state of the union in 1912. New Mexico ranks fifth among the 50 US states by total area and is bordered by Colorado to the north, Oklahoma, and Texas to the east. the states of Chihuahua and Sonora to the south, and Arizona (which was part of New Mexico Territory from 1850 to 1863) to the west. The territory of New Mexico was claimed by Spain in the 16th century, but it is not considered part of its North American territory due to scattered settlements. However, after the Pueblo Rebellion in 1680, New Mexico became a province of Spain until Mexican independence in 1821. It then became part of Mexico until the United States was annexed after the Mexican-American War in 1848.

2. San Juan College – Farmington
The nursing education program at San Juan College prepares students for the NCLEX-RN examination and a career as a registered nurse. This two-year nursing program is offered in partnership with the University of New Mexico, allowing students to earn a dual degree of ADN and BSN in as little as four years. The program is held mainly during the day, so students must manage their class and clinical schedules wisely. Upon graduation, students are proficient in nursing concepts, health assessment, and caring for patients across the lifespan.
3. New Mexico Junior College – Hobbs
The nursing program at New Mexico Junior College is grounded in evidence-based and patient-centric nursing care. The two-year associate of applied science in nursing program prepares you to practice entry-level nursing with a well-rounded education. Upon completion of the program, you can either work as a registered nurse at an array of clinical settings or transfer to a four-year college, both ways the program serves you well as the coursework provides a solid foundation for success in your nursing career. Moreover, the college's articulation agreements with prominent universities and colleges in the region promise a seamless transfer of your credits toward a bachelor of science in nursing degree.
4. New Mexico State University – Carlsbad
Completion of a two-year student nursing program at New Mexico State University can be given a thought if your goal is to enter into a career as a registered nurse. This RN program in New Mexico spans through four semesters and requires completion of 70 credits. In order to gain eligibility into this program, you must first complete your nurse assistant training. Once enrolled, you will undergo extensive didactic and clinical experiences that prepare you for the challenges of this career. Graduates of this program will demonstrate competence in providing culturally relevant nursing care for a diverse population. Eligible LPN graduates with an active license may enter the second year of the coursework directly without having to register again.
5. Central New Mexico Community College – Albuquerque
Central New Mexico Community College offers a 68-credit Associate of Applied Science in nursing that prepares graduates to play vital roles within the community by providing holistic care for individuals and promoting healthy living. The comprehensive curriculum is a balance of classroom lectures and hands-on learning through laboratory training and clinical experience sessions. Students explore subject areas including mathematics, composition, human anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, developmental psychology, principles of nursing practice health and illness concepts, nursing pharmacology, professional nursing concepts, and care of patients with chronic conditions.
