Facility Background

Brookfield Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation provider located in Battle Ground, Washington. It has approximately 80 full-time staff members and uses Nursa to cover weekend shifts, holidays, and last-minute call outs.

The Challenge

As with many other facilities, Brookfield experienced the strain from the nationwide nursing shortage caused by an aging population, nurse burnout, and inequitable workforce distribution. “Finding the right amount of staff is the number one pain point in this job,” started Josh Clark, CEO of Brookfield Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia. “The need for staffing support is a day-by-day question. Sometimes I don’t know if I need support for tomorrow until 10 PM the night before. While we always try to exhaust our internal resources, occasionally we need the extra help.”

I don’t have to pick up the phone to call someone for help.”

The PRN model was the perfect solution to support last-minute call outs and unfulfilled weekend shifts. “We don’t always know in advance if there is going to be a call out. During these moments, we’ve reached out to Nursa clinicians who have worked at our facility previously to see if they would be willing to help pick up a last-minute shift,” Josh acknowledged. “Switching to Nursa helps us plan out weekends which eases stress across the whole team.”

Alongside the Nursa’s ease of use, the Brookfield team has been able to find solace in local Nursa representatives, Luke and Zeke. “The local team is fantastic. They’re always happy to help us with adding bonuses or [filling] last-minute call outs. Utilizing the local team is a big part of why we enjoy using Nursa,” mused Josh.
