PRN ICU CNAs Are in High Demand
While the work setting of an ICU is likely to be quieter than that of the Emergency Room, it is no less demanding. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients require compassionate, attentive care from patient care techs (PCTs) and nursing assistants.
The typical duties of a CNA working in the ICU include the following:
- Repositioning
- Bringing meal trays and assisting with feeding
- Mouth hydration
- Toileting
- Changing clothing
- Assisting nurses with patient transfers
ICU CNAs must identify patient problems quickly and know when to alert a nurse. Repositioning and lifting patients for transfers is common not only in all acute care settings but in the ICU as well and, therefore, requires physical strength.
