Key findings and trends

After selecting the award winners, Nursa reached out to the schedulers to identify common themes across staffing pain points, nurse scheduling best practices, and recommendations for improving facility workflows.

1. Effective staffing starts with clinician empowerment

  • Facility schedulers often noted that having control over their staffing workflows helped them achieve better staffing outcomes at their facilities.
  • Checking clinician credentials, viewing the amount of experience nurses have, and having the ability to communicate with per diem clinicians prior to the shift were all critical for finding the right clinician to work an upcoming shift.

2. Facilities had repeated success hiring clinicians from Nursa

  • Clinicians found on Nursa were consistently brought onto the full-time staff at Nursa, with facilities being able to reduce onboarding costs, trust Nursa’s background checks and credentialing process, and quickly integrate clinicians into the nursing staff.
  • Facilities were able to leverage Nursa not just as a platform for filling open shifts but as an extension of HR, serving as a recruitment pipeline for sourcing future hires.

3. Top-rated facilities prioritize efficiency and flexibility

  • Award-winning facilities were 24.3% more likely to achieve a completed shift compared to all facilities on the Nursa platform, ensuring positive outcomes for facilities, nurses, and patient care.
  • Awarded facilities were more likely to have used the Nursa platform as their preferred staffing solution over staffing agencies and other staffing platforms.
  • Top facilities found success by repeatedly staffing the same clinicians for multiple shifts, resulting in improved outcomes for both the clinician and facility.
  • By having clinicians come back to facilities for multiple shifts, nurses were able to acclimate and provide better patient care.

From these takeaways, the Nursa Best Facilities program uncovered that exceptional healthcare staffing isn’t just about covering unfilled shifts. Top-rated facilities consistently focused on finding clinicians that were right for their patients, and empowered these clinicians to do their best work, and often found clinicians which were a good fit in a full-time employee role.

The Best-Rated category describes facilities that not only staff with a diverse clinician population, but are also highly rated by these clinicians. These facilities were recognized as the highest-rated on Nursa in 2024. Clinicians consider them top facilities.

Monument Health Group Millcreek earned the Best in Category facility based on the overall review sentiment from clinicians who completed shifts at the facility.

The Rising Star award describes smaller facilities with the highest average rating per job. Even though these facilities may be smaller, newer to the Nursa platform, or just have a lower need for staffing support, they received high marks from clinicians.

Keystone earned the Best in Category designation for the Rising Star award based on their overall rating and positive feedback from clinicians.

Awards methodology

Nursa collected more than 190,000 reviews from over 260,000 completed shifts on the Nursa platform between January 1 and December 31, 2024.

All clinician reviews were optional. After completing a shift, clinicians were invited to rate their overall experience with the facility and provide additional comments through Nursa’s Shift Report feature. These reviews reflect clinician sentiment and do not measure patient experience or facility compliance with state or federal regulations.

To qualify for these awards, facilities must meet specific criteria. They need to have scheduled at least 10 different clinicians through Nursa, ensuring that ratings reflect a wide range of clinician experiences. Additionally, facilities must have received at least 50 clinician reviews, confirming that their high ratings reflect sustained excellence rather than isolated instances of positive feedback.

Eligible facilities must also adhere to several other requirements. Each facility can receive only one award per calendar year; however, multiple facilities within the same organization may independently qualify.

Facilities must remain active on the Nursa platform during the selection period and have a current, publicly accessible profile on Nursa's website. Each facility must also have an independent website to verify operational status and ensure that Nursa can send clinician users seeking full-time opportunities to the respective facilities’ websites. These filtering and selection criteria aim to promote fairness, enhance credibility, and help spotlight healthcare facilities genuinely committed to supporting clinicians and delivering exceptional patient care.

For this report, we also incorporated proprietary platform metrics to assess facility eligibility for certain awards. This data includes aggregated shift information, clinician approval rates, and shift cancellation counts.
