LPN Jobs in OH
How could you not love a state as great as Ohio? This state is one of the most populated states in the nation. It has been home to many notable people, including President William McKinley and Paul Laurence Dunbar. It is also known for being the native location of General Robert E. Lee and abolitionist John Brown.
Ohio’s official nickname is “The Buckeye State.” This nickname comes from the Native Americans who thought that a buckeye tree resembled a deer’s eye, and was therefore called “buckeye” by Ohio natives. Ohio has also been called The Mother of Presidents as eight past presidents have been born there: Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James A. Garfield, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, William Howard Taft, Warren G. Harding, and George W. Bush. The state’s official flower is the scarlet carnation and its state bird is the cardinal. Lake Erie forms much of the northern border along with Pennsylvania and West Virginia while Ohio’s southern neighbor is Kentucky.
Ohio’s land has been part of many great empires including the French and British Empires before it became a state. The first Europeans to set foot on Ohio soil were the French, so Ohio was named “L’Ouest” or “the West.” Around 1749, not too long after the end of the French and Indian War, English settlers from the east coast moved westward into the Ohio River Valley. President James Monroe and General William Henry Harrison were both born in Virginia but later moved to Ohio when they were young men.
Ohio is known for its rich farmland and agriculture in general. It also has a large manufacturing industry because it borders Lake Erie and is part of the Rust Belt. Ohio is also a leader in scientific research and continues to invest money into new inventions such as the light-emitting diode (LED) and liquid crystal display (LCD).
