What Is an LPN?

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) are actual nurses who work under the authority and supervision of a registered nurse (RN) and have completed the national exam requirements for a license.

What Does an LPN Do?

LPNs or LVNs perform basic nursing tasks, such as monitoring patients, taking vital signs, checking blood pressure, etc. LPNs can be found working in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health, telehealth, physicians' offices, and more.

What Are Typical LPN Duties?

LPN duties vary depending on the setting in which one works. Suppose you are working in long-term care or the home health environment. In that case, many of your tasks may range from helping patients with bathing, daily exercise, changing bandages, inserting/maintaining catheters, giving medications, educating on procedures and treatments to the resident, etc.

When working in the hospital setting as an LPN in Reno, the tasks may change from hospital to hospital. The LPN may assume additional responsibilities or other types of functions, including assuming responsibility for the patient's well-being, meeting each patient's needs, assessing the patient's status, recording medical history, checking vital signs, giving injections and medications, observing the condition and reactions to medicines and treatments, etc.

What Are PRN Jobs in Healthcare?
