What young healthcare providers made this honorable list? Keep reading to get a glimpse of some of the top healthcare influencers of  2022, and what helped them blaze the trail to their success.

Historical Clinical Heroes of The Past

The advancement of modern medicine, innovation, and technology would be impossible without the contributions of historical clinicians of our past. So who are some famous physicians and nurses that made colossal contributions to the world of medicine as we know it? Here's a quick look back at some of the most prodigious physicians of all time.

Hippocrates was regarded as the “Father of Medicine”, he was able to break down common day illnesses as a result of poor diet, harsh environmental factors, and a gradual breakdown of bodily processes. He was also the first physician to establish medicine based on scientific analysis, rather than religious superstition.

Furthermore, to this day, Sir Alexander Fleming, a Scottish physician, and microbiologist is perhaps the best known for his discovery of penicillin. He was awarded the 1945 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and will continue to receive perpetual fame for his “accidental”, yet unprecedented discovery of an antibiotic agent that has saved millions of lives.

Last but not least is a female healthcare powerhouse leader known as Elizabeth Blackwell. Elizabeth Blackwell revolutionized the face of healthcare in the 19th century.  Blackwell was the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States and serve as an advocate for female nurses. She graduated from medical school in 1849 and established the New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children treating underprivileged children and made available training for women interested in medical practice.

A trained physician, Greenbaum is spearheading Eleanor's expansion into new markets by overseeing the opening of new clinics and recruiting new providers. She advises medical students to "learn how to lead in the smallest ways."

  • Robert Bressler, SVP and General Manager of Virtual Primary Care at Teladoc Health

The telehealth company's new VP is leading the charge as Teladoc rolls out its virtual primary care offering. Bressler's work has helped the company win over consumers who have been hesitant to embrace virtual care, which could help expand the use of the technology.

  • Caroline Njau, SVP of Patient Care Services and CNO at Children's Minnesota

As a nurse practitioner, Ms. Njau brings a unique skill set to her leadership position. Under her direction, Children's has expanded its patient safety initiatives, including a focus on reducing the use of physical restraints in behavioral health settings.

  • Bruce Siegel: President and CEO of America's Essential Hospitals

Dr. Siegel serves as president and CEO of America's Essential Hospitals, a group that represents more than 250 safety-net hospitals and health systems across the U.S. During his tenure, he has been vocal about opposing proposed cuts to Medicaid funding and programs that support communities with higher concentrations of poverty.

  • Karin Dahllöf: Chief Executive Officer, Monivent AB

Karin Dahllöf is the CEO of Monivent, which designs and manufactures ventilation systems for neonatal use. In this position, she leads the development of new products, as well as day-to-day operations.
