Generally, medical workers in the emergency room need to have extensive training and certifications in order to have access to this area. This includes extensive medical knowledge, active medical licensure, as well as a familiarity with the ER workflow. Certain medical workers will need to have specialized certifications, such as critical care, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), advanced cardiac life support, or advanced trauma life support.
In certain hospitals, additional certifications may be needed, depending upon the departments and teams working in the ER. Generally, these certifications are obtained through official organizations and courses to obtain the proper licensure to work in the ER. Additionally, it is common for medical workers in the ER to receive additional certifications as time passes to update their skills and remain abreast of changes in industry standards.
