The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is a training program designed for healthcare professionals that give them the skills and knowledge needed to effectively respond to and manage neonatal emergencies. Nurses who complete the NRP program have the tools to provide initial support and stabilize an ill or preterm infant as well as provide the necessary care for newborns using the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines. This specialized training empowers nurses to be well-rounded and competent providers of care for newborns.
The NRP is an evidence-based credential program designed to teach participants the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for effective neonatal resuscitation. The course provides instructions on how to evaluate the infant and proper techniques for handling and obtaining medical evaluation. NRP applies the skills of visual assessment, airway management, breathing, chest compressions, and circulation. This certification is highly beneficial to nurses working in the maternity unit as well as those midwives who work in neonatal intensive care units.
