Nurse Staffing An Ongoing Concern for Healthcare Leaders
The nursing shortage isn’t a new challenge, but the COVID-19 pandemic did amplify it. Survey results show that hospital executives are justifiably concerned:
- Over 50% of hospitals and health systems surveyed reported a nursing staff turnover rate of 20% in 2023.
- Over one-third of respondents reported they had implemented mandatory overtime for their nursing staff.
- 80% of health system leaders believe technology could take on more administrative responsibilities, leaving nurses to prioritize healthcare delivery.
