Historically, staffing agencies have been filling healthcare facilities’ gaps in clinician coverage. However, using staffing agencies involves too many steps for the healthcare facility and does not always result in a fair employment relationship for nurses, hospitals, or other healthcare facilities. One visionary leader who wants to change this is Curtis Anderson, CEO and founder of Nursa. Curtis was interviewed for a podcast on CEO.com. This podcast is committed to forming and inspiring new and current leaders.
The interview begins with Curtis explaining what Nursa is and how he got started. He defines Nursa’s role as “offering a digital solution that is new to an audience that is traditionally and historically very slow to adopt operational tech.”
Nursa’s Brief and Successful History
In 2017, Curtis bought a staffing agency and immediately observed that there needed to be a better way to help facilities, nurses, and, ultimately, patients.
Despite beginning as a small start-up, Nursa has averaged 67 percent MoM revenue growth in a short period, which for Curtis has meant several advantages and disadvantages, as he details when talking about the most intense COVID period in 2020.
Curtis Anderson: Nursa’s Leader
Curtis was asked questions related to his personal life, his daily routine, recently read books, and his input on AI. Curtis has been passionate about software for most of his life. “We leverage a number of machine learning models to facilitate dynamic pricing at the point of the shift, and our commitment to facilities in this is that you will not pay a penny more than it takes to fill the shift.”
When asked about the three most important traits of a leader, his response is this:
"What you do is who you are."
A great leader understands that stress focuses your attention in ways that good times can’t.
Good leadership requires simultaneous optimism, faith in the future, and pragmatic pessimism to coexist.
Curtis is committed to his passion for improving care delivery, which is why he now serves as Sponsorship Chair for the Utah Chapter of HIMSS. You can listen to the full podcast created to inspire leaders and enjoy the transcript here.
