Nursa Hosts a Blood Drive to Address a National Shortage
According to the American Red Cross, the nation is facing an emergency blood shortage. National blood supply has dropped by more than 25 percent—approximately 19,000 blood donations—since July 1. This shortage is due in part to the extreme heat waves which impacted nearly 100 blood drives in July. Hospitals are currently requesting blood products faster than donations are coming in. Therefore, donors are urgently needed.
To help address this urgent need, Nursa is partnering with the American Red Cross in a blood drive this August 27, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at Nursa Headquarters (5295 South Commerce Drive, Suite 600, Salt Lake City, UT 84107).
Nursa is offering the following raffle prizes for two lucky donors:
- Moneybag: $100 gift card
- Dollar: $50 gift card
When scheduling their donations, participants will be able to choose from the following options:
- Blood: This is the most common type of donation. Donors give approximately a pint of whole blood. This type of blood donation typically takes about one hour.
- Power Red: During a Power Red donation, the red cells are collected, but most of the plasma and platelets are returned to the donor. These donors must meet eligibility requirements, including having type A Neg, B Neg, or O blood.
