PT/FT Certified Caregiver - PM

Job description

This position is responsible for creating the quality of life and experiences for our residents.  On a daily occurrence, this position will assist with activities of daily living to include performing patient care activities under the supervision of the Resident Services Manager.

Specific Duties

  • Support clinical staff in a calm and efficient manner during acute, emergency situations.
  • Bathe residents by multiple methods: shower, bed bath and perennial care.
  • Follow prescribed bathing protocols. A thorough bathing process includes: shampooing/washing/rinsing/drying and moisturizing of hair and body parts thoroughly.
  • Dress and groom (brush hair, shave, oral hygiene, etc.) residents.  Provide nail care (no clipping but filing is included); evaluating the need for podiatry support.
  • Perform housekeeping duties such as making beds, empty trash, wash dishes in sink (both occupied and unoccupied) and clean up after any unusual incontinence or injury as it occurs.
  • Assist with prompt communication to maintain the integrity of Resident’s private areas and building in general by notifying maintenance and housekeeping department through work orders for repair and less than sanitary conditions.
  • Measure, record and report vital signs: temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure.  Weigh residents monthly as ordered and as needed with concern for change in condition.
  • Measure and record intake and output as ordered or requested by the Director of Clinical Care.
  • Provide care that minimizes the risk of skin breakdown by being attentive to the resident’s hygiene, proper positioning and injury prevention. Observe and report the presence of skin breakdown to the Director of Clinical Care.
  • Properly and safely lift, move, transfer and position residents in bed, wheelchairs and while using other equipment; use of gait belts for transfer assistance is mandatory.
  • Maintain proper care specialist dress code as described in the Alta Vista Employee Handbook.
  • Provide encouragement of socialization and engagement in activity to promote life enrichment.
  • Safely aid with feeding residents as ordered, following prescribed feeding protocols. Record resident’s intake and report any changes.
  • Accurately observe, recognize changes and report to the Director of Clinical Care staff in a timely fashion. Submit via both written and/or verbal communication any changes from norm, or “unusual” observations to the Resident Care Coordinator and/or the Director of Clinical Care in a timely fashion. Report accidents, with or without injury, promptly to immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive energy toward a calm and peaceful environment. Gossiping is toxic and intolerable. Team members are empowered to insure the “home-like” environment for Residents and “professional” workplace for all Alta Vista staff by redirecting negative energies and reporting unresolved matters to the Director of Clinical Care.
  • Assist each resident with their ever-changing needs due to cognitive and physical loss.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Licensed Certified Care Giver in accordance with Arizona State Law
  • Current CPR and First Aide Certificates
  • Current Fingerprint Card
  • Able to lift between 25 & 75 pounds
  • Experience working with seniors and/or in the medical field (preferred)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication in English
  • Maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment. 
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and a flexible schedule
