A Typical PRN LPN Shift

LPNs can work in various healthcare facility settings, and the same is true for PRN LPN jobs. A typical PRN LPN shift in a long-term care facility may be something like this:

The LPN arrives at the facility, marks that they've arrived in the app, and reports for duty. They receive the shift report from the previous shift nurse. They review the patients' charts, medications, and care plans to familiarize themselves with the residents' needs.

Once the shift begins, the LPN starts their rounds, checking on each resident and addressing any immediate concerns or needs. They may administer medications, dress wounds, change dressings, and monitor vital signs. They also assist with basic activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and toileting. The LPN also provides emotional support and companionship to the residents, as many of them may be elderly or have chronic health conditions.

Throughout the shift, the LPN collaborates with other healthcare team members, including registered nursescertified nursing assistants, and physical therapists, to coordinate and provide comprehensive care for the residents. They also communicate with family members and update them on their loved one's condition.

In addition to direct patient care, the LPN is responsible for documenting all care provided and any changes in the residents' condition. They also assist with restocking medical supplies and maintaining a clean and safe environment for the residents.

In a long-term care facility, unexpected emergencies can happen anytime, so the LPN must always be prepared to handle them. This may include responding to falls, providing first aid, and initiating emergency protocols.

As the shift ends, the LPN completes their charting and hands over any relevant information to the next shift nurse. They also conduct a final round to ensure that all residents are comfortable and their needs have been met. Finally, they mark the shift as completed in the app.

Overall, a typical PRN LPN shift in a long-term care facility in Panama City is busy and demanding, but with a strong sense of purpose and fulfillment in caring for the residents and ensuring their well-being.
