If you are looking for licensed practical nurse (LPN) jobs in Tampa, Florida, we have got you covered. Read on to learn about demand for LPNs, where LPNs can work, and LPN salary – as well as how to increase it. Whether you are looking for full-time or part-time LPN jobs in the Tampa Bay area, you will find precisely what you need.

Are LPNs in Demand in Florida?

The truth is that with the nursing shortage that the United States has been experiencing – which has only been accentuated by the COVID-19 pandemic – nurses are on demand practically everywhere all the time. In Florida in particular, there are only 4.39 LPNs per 1,000 people, a ratio which is below the national average for LPNs in the US. With a total of 5,680 LPNs, Tampa is in a very similar situation with only 4.41 LPNs per 1,000 people – also below the national average. These figures show that LPNs are in demand in Florida, but perhaps that isn’t the question you should be asking. Although there is a demand for nurses, nurse salaries in Florida aren’t particularly high, so the question you should be asking yourself is, where can I find high-paying LPN jobs in Tampa, Florida?

What Is the Hourly Rate for an LPN in Florida?

LPNs in Florida make on average $23.01 per hour or $47,860 annually. LPNs in Tampa earn almost exactly the same amount with an average salary of $47,880 per year. This is below the national average wage for LPNs, which is $24.93 per hour or $51,850 annually. Considering that the national average wage for LPNs is approximately $25 per hour, how does earning 40 or more dollars per hour sound to you?

What Are the Highest-Paying LPN Jobs?

Hands down, the highest-paying jobs for LPNs are PRN or per diem jobs. PRN stands for the Latin term ‘pro re nata’, which means ‘as needed’, and the Latin term ‘per diem’ means ‘per day’. Both these terms are used in healthcare to refer to temporary jobs created to fill extraordinary staffing needs. When a staff nurse goes on vacation or takes maternity/paternity leave or when there is an unexpected increase in the number of patients due, for example, to a surge in COVID-19 cases, healthcare facilities must hire short-term workers to cover extra staffing needs. This is where PRN nurses come in. And since these jobs are temporary and often urgent in nature, they pay significantly more per shift than staff positions do.

How to Find Per Diem LPN Jobs in Tampa

If you are interested in nearly doubling your LPN salary, then you need to download the Nursa™ healthcare staffing app and begin browsing PRN jobs near you. In addition, it not only will help you find the highest-paying PRN jobs, but it will bill the healthcare facilities for you and make sure you get your payments deposited directly into your account in a timely manner, freeing you from having to send invoices to the facilities and having to stay on top of payments.

Also, keep in mind that in addition to paying significantly more per shift, PRN work allows nurses to choose their own work schedule, load, and settings. In other words, you can work as much as you want to, when you want to, and where you want to – all while earning more than a regular staff job would pay.
