The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System operates from a medical center on Pecos Road in North Las Vegas, Nevada, opened in 2012 as the first new VA hospital built from the ground up in more than a decade. Before that, veterans in the Las Vegas area relied on a patchwork of leased clinics and referrals to facilities hours away, so the hospital represented a substantial shift in local access. The system serves southern Nevada and parts of Arizona and California, with outpatient clinics extending across the metropolitan area and outlying communities.
Services include inpatient medical and surgical care, intensive care, surgery, primary care, and a range of outpatient specialty clinics, alongside mental and behavioral health programs covering outpatient treatment, PTSD care, substance use treatment, and outreach to veterans experiencing homelessness. Extended care and rehabilitation support an aging veteran population, and southern Nevada's steady retiree influx keeps demand climbing. Nurses practice across critical care, medical-surgical, perioperative, outpatient, and mental health settings in facilities newer than most VA hospitals. Employment falls under federal terms rather than the structures at Valley Health, Dignity Health, or the region's other private systems.
