Job Description
A certified nursing assistant on the Nursa platform will provide basic care and help patients with activities of daily living under the supervision of a licensed nurse. PRN CNAs will work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, long-term care (LTC) centers, assisted living facilities (ALFs), skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), outpatient centers, home health services, dialysis clinics, and other types of healthcare facilities.
CNA responsibilities:
CNA duties can vary across facility settings, so the following are general responsibilities expected of certified nursing assistants working shifts on the Nursa platform:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair care, toileting, incontinence care, dressing, feeding, and walking or exercising
- Help with patient transfers and ambulation, and support range-of-motion exercises as directed
- Turn and reposition bedbound patients to prevent pressure injuries
- Change bed linens and dispose of waste materials according to safety and infection control procedures
- Answer call lights promptly and respond to patient needs
- Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, height, and weight
- Measure and record dietary intake and output
- Assist with catheter and ostomy care according to facility policies and under licensed nurse supervision
- Observe or examine patients to detect symptoms or changes in condition that may require medical attention and report concerns to a licensed nurse
- Assist nurses or physicians in the operation of medical equipment or provision of care
- Transport patients to treatment units, operating rooms, or other areas using wheelchairs, stretchers, or movable beds
- Clean and sanitize patients' clothing, rooms, bathrooms, examination rooms, or other areas, maintaining safety standards and infection control procedures
- Adhere to Universal Precautions and hygiene standards to help prevent the spread of infections and diseases
- Document all care provided and refused objectively and accurately, and chart activities of daily living
- Report incidents, changes in condition, or safety concerns promptly and in accordance with facility procedure
- Maintain patient confidentiality and respect patients' rights and privacy
- Assist with post-mortem care procedures with dignity and respect when required
CNA qualifications:
Here are basic qualifications and important skills for nursing assistants working with Nursa:
- Completing a nurse assistant course that meets state requirements
- Passing the respective state's competency exam and obtaining an active and unencumbered certification or license valid in the state
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and/or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as needed
- Proof of up-to-date immunizations and passing required background checks, including caregiver abuse registry screenings
- Work experience of 6-12 months often preferred, depending on facility requirements
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and cope with high-stress situations
- Some facilities may require a Fit-to-Work statement or physical exam
- Following oral and written instructions and working effectively as part of a team
- Providing compassionate and reliable care while communicating effectively within a healthcare team
