An independent contractor agreement is a document you sign, not a course you complete. Autumn Lake Healthcare at Arlington West requires one before you work a shift there, and it sets out the terms of the working relationship between you and the building. Nursa tracks it alongside your other nursing credentials.
What does the agreement establish?
It puts in writing that you work as an independent contractor rather than an employee. That distinction drives most of what follows: you choose which shifts to accept, you handle your own taxes, and you carry your own license, certifications, and insurance. The document generally also covers the scope of services you are agreeing to provide and your obligations around resident privacy.
What does signing it not do?
Signing does not:
- Make you an employee of Arlington West or Autumn Lake
- Guarantee you a set number of shifts or hours
- Entitle you to employee benefits
- Replace any credential the building requires separately
Does it cover other Autumn Lake locations?
Not on its own. The agreement is tied to Arlington West, and other Autumn Lake buildings keep their own records, so working across locations can mean signing more than once. Read the credential list attached to a shift before you request it.
Should you read it before signing?
Yes, and it is worth the 10 minutes. Look closely at scope of services, cancellation terms, and how payment is handled, since those are the parts you actually live with on a shift. Questions about specific language belong with the facility rather than with a colleague's summary of what they think it says.

There is no course behind this credential and no test at the end. The signed document itself is what goes on your profile.
