Certificate of Insurance - General & Professional Liability

A certificate of insurance is proof that you carry coverage, not the coverage itself. Facilities ask for one before clearing a clinician for shifts, and Nursa keeps it with your other nursing credentials.

What is a certificate of insurance?

A one-page summary issued by your insurer or broker. It names the carrier, the policy number, the coverage types, the limits, and the dates the policy runs. It is evidence rather than the contract, which is why the insurer issues it and you cannot produce one yourself. Request a current certificate rather than a declarations page or a payment receipt.

How do general and professional liability differ?

They answer different claims. Professional liability, often called malpractice coverage, responds to allegations that your clinical care fell short and caused harm. General liability responds to ordinary accidents unrelated to clinical judgment, such as property damage or an injury on the premises. Facilities often ask for both, and a certificate showing only one may not clear the requirement.

Occurrence or claims-made, and why it matters

Check which kind your policy is. An occurrence policy covers incidents that happen while it is active, whenever the claim eventually arrives. A claims-made policy responds only if the policy is still active when the claim is filed, which can leave a gap after you change carriers unless tail coverage is added. For per diem work spread across facilities, the distinction is worth understanding before you need it.

When does it need replacing?

At every renewal. Policies usually run a year and the certificate expires with them, so an out-of-date certificate leaves the credential lapsed even though your coverage continued. Ask your broker for a fresh certificate at renewal and upload it with both dates.

Adding it to your profile

Upload the certificate itself, showing coverage types, limits, and dates.

  1. Tap Menu in the top left of the Nursa app.
  2. Select Profile.
  3. Scroll to the Credentials section.
  4. Tap Add your Credential.
  5. Upload your document as a PDF, WORD, JPG, or PNG.

Sign up as a clinician and keep the certificate current so a renewal never costs you a shift.

Testimonial about Nursa from the real users

Nursa is always there for me!”

“I love the easy user-friendly app with clear pictures and information about a facility. I work with other agencies and the Nursa app is most visually appealing! The best thing about Nursa though is the professional attitude of the staff whenever you call or need help. Again, surpasses other agencies”
