Cherrydale Post Acute requires in-service training of the clinicians who work its units. Unlike orientation, it recurs, and each completion lands on your Nursa profile with your other nursing credentials.
Do per diem clinicians complete in-services too?
Yes, when the facility requires it for shift access. What differs is how you find it. Permanent staff have in-services scheduled into their shifts, often on the unit and on paid time. A clinician picking up shifts has to seek the training out and finish it independently, which is why it appears as a credential rather than as something handled while you are in the building.
What topics does an in-service cover?
They rotate, and most facilities work through the same core areas across a year.
- Infection control, hand hygiene, and personal protective equipment
- Resident rights and abuse prevention, which may also exist as its own credential
- Fire safety, emergency codes, and evacuation procedures
- Safe transfers, body mechanics, and fall prevention
- Documentation and shift handoff expectations
Does one in-service cover you for the year?
Not usually. In-service requirements tend to be counted rather than checked off once, with federal rules setting a minimum number of annual training hours for nurse aides in nursing facilities and operators applying their own expectations to licensed staff. A single session covers its topic rather than the year, so expect the requirement to come back around.
