Desert Haven Care Center | Behavioral Training

Desert Haven Care Center requires behavioral training before a clinician works its units. The training covers responding to residents whose behavior reflects distress, confusion, or an unmet need, and completion sits on your Nursa profile with your other nursing credentials.

What does the training cover?

Prevention and response, weighted toward prevention.

  • Recognizing triggers before a situation escalates
  • Verbal de-escalation and approaches that lower rather than raise tension
  • Non-pharmacologic interventions and when to reach for them
  • Documenting behaviors, what was tried, and what worked
  • When and how to escalate, including staff safety

Why is behavior treated as communication?

Because it usually is. A resident with dementia who cannot say that they are in pain, need the bathroom, are cold, or are overwhelmed by noise may express it through resistance, agitation, or trying to leave the unit. Training points clinicians at the cause rather than the conduct, since the intervention that works is the one addressing what the person actually needs. Working that way also reduces how often anything more restrictive gets considered at all.

What are the limits on restraints?

Tight, and worth knowing precisely. Federal nursing facility rules give residents the right to be free from physical or chemical restraints imposed for discipline or staff convenience rather than to treat a medical symptom. Chemical restraint covers medication used to manage behavior rather than to treat a diagnosed condition. Misuse can rise to the level of abuse, which is why this training sits close to the separate abuse credential a facility may also require.

Complete your training

This training belongs to Desert Haven rather than an outside certifying body, so its approach reflects the residents in that building and does not transfer elsewhere.

Find the behavioral training in ShiftReady and complete it, then record it:

  1. Tap Menu in the top left of the Nursa app.
  2. Select Profile.
  3. Scroll to the Credentials section.
  4. Tap Add your Credential.
  5. Upload your document as a PDF, WORD, JPG, or PNG.

Sign up as a clinician and clear behavioral training before requesting shifts on those units.

Testimonial about Nursa from the real users

Nursa is always there for me!”

“I love the easy user-friendly app with clear pictures and information about a facility. I work with other agencies and the Nursa app is most visually appealing! The best thing about Nursa though is the professional attitude of the staff whenever you call or need help. Again, surpasses other agencies”
