In-Service Credentials

In-service training is the recurring education facilities require of the people working their units. It is a category rather than a single course, and each completion sits on your profile alongside your other nursing credentials.

Who decides what an in-service covers?

Several layers, which is why topics vary so much between buildings. Federal rules set minimum expectations, particularly around nurse aide training hours and required subjects. States add their own. Individual facilities then choose topics based on what their building actually needs, and some sessions are prompted by events, so a run of falls or an infection control finding can produce an in-service on exactly that within weeks.

Is an in-service the same as continuing education?

Related, but not interchangeable. Continuing education counts toward renewing your license or certification, and your board decides what qualifies. In-service training counts toward what a facility requires of people working its units, and the facility decides. Some courses satisfy both, though that is a bonus rather than a rule, and completing one does not automatically fill the other. Clinicians who assume it does tend to find the gap at renewal.

How do you keep track across facilities?

Deliberately, because nobody does it for you. A clinician working 4 buildings can accumulate in-services from 4 systems, each with its own record and its own cycle, none of them talking to each other. Save every completion certificate as you finish it rather than reconstructing the year later, and note the date, since facilities check recency as closely as content.

Adding it to your profile

Upload each completion separately rather than as a bundle, since facilities look for specific topics.

  1. Tap Menu in the top left of the Nursa app.
  2. Select Profile.
  3. Scroll to the Credentials section.
  4. Tap Add your Credential.
  5. Upload your document as a PDF, WORD, JPG, or PNG.

Sign up as a clinician and file each certificate when you finish it, while it is still in front of you.

Testimonial about Nursa from the real users

Nursa is always there for me!”

“I love the easy user-friendly app with clear pictures and information about a facility. I work with other agencies and the Nursa app is most visually appealing! The best thing about Nursa though is the professional attitude of the staff whenever you call or need help. Again, surpasses other agencies”
