Inclusive Care Training for Oregon LTC

Inclusive care training prepares clinicians to care for residents across differences in identity, background, and belief. Oregon requires it in long-term care settings, and it sits with your other nursing credentials.

What does the training cover?

Caring for residents whose lives, families, and needs may differ from what a building's routines assume.

  • Resident rights covering privacy, dignity, and freedom from discrimination
  • Using the name and pronouns a resident uses for themselves
  • Recognizing who a resident counts as family
  • Personal care delivered in a way that respects privacy and preference
  • What belongs in the record and what does not

Why does long-term care raise specific issues?

Because residents live there. A hospital stay lasts days, and a patient's private life mostly stays private. A long-term care building is someone's home, shared with staff, other residents, and visitors, sometimes for years. That changes what is at stake. Older LGBTQ residents in particular sometimes conceal parts of their lives on moving into a facility, having spent decades in circumstances where doing so was safer, and a resident who feels unable to be honest about who visits or who matters to them is a resident whose care suffers for it.

What does it look like on a shift?

Ordinary things done attentively. Asking what a resident wants to be called and using it consistently, including when they are not in the room. Not passing along something personal a resident told you that has no bearing on their care. Treating the person who visits every day as the person who matters to them, whatever the relationship is called. Handling personal care with the privacy you would want yourself. None of it takes extra time. It takes noticing.

A better control of my time!”

Testimonial about Nursa from the real users

Nursa is always there for me!”

“I love the easy user-friendly app with clear pictures and information about a facility. I work with other agencies and the Nursa app is most visually appealing! The best thing about Nursa though is the professional attitude of the staff whenever you call or need help. Again, surpasses other agencies”
