Where AB 508 comes from
California enacted Assembly Bill 508 in 1993, following attention to violence against healthcare workers. It directed hospitals to assess security risks and to train staff who work in settings where assaultive behavior is a recognized hazard. MAB certification became the common way that training is documented, which is why the two names travel together on credential lists.
