What Is a Medical Surgical Unit?

A medical-surgical unit is a floor or wing of a hospital where CNAs work alongside other healthcare professionals to provide care to patients with various medical conditions. In this unit, patients undergo procedures, treatments, and surgical interventions to treat illnesses or injuries. CNAs play a vital role in med surg units by assisting registered nurses (RNs) in monitoring and evaluating patients, recording vital signs, administering medications, and providing basic care like bathing, feeding, and mobility assistance.

What Do CNAs Do in the Medsurg Unit?

As mentioned earlier, CNAs in the medical surgical unit work closely with RNs. They are responsible for carrying out tasks delegated by the RNs that assist in the patients' treatment and recovery process.
