Baker College of Owosso offers a professional nursing education centered on a "student-first" philosophy and rapid workforce preparation. The College of Nursing provides multiple pathways, including a four-year traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), an accelerated BSN for second-degree holders, and an online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with concentrations in Nursing Administration and Education. The pre-licensure BSN curriculum comprises 120 credit hours, including 62 credits specifically within the nursing major. Students focus on core competencies such as interprofessional collaboration, evidence-based practice, and clinical reasoning, often benefiting from small class sizes that allow for personalized faculty mentorship.
The program emphasizes immersive practical training, utilizing sophisticated on-campus simulation labs to mirror real-world medical scenarios. Students complete extensive clinical hours at a variety of regional healthcare facilities, gaining hands-on experience in acute care, community health, and specialized nursing fields. This rigorous approach has led to strong outcomes; in 2023, Baker College achieved a combined NCLEX-RN pass rate of over 90%, exceeding both state and national averages. Compared to other regional programs, Baker stands out for its direct-admission track for high-performing first-year students and its flexible, year-round course starts, which allow students to enter the nursing profession more quickly than traditional semester-based institutions.
