Capital University sits in Bexley, a residential neighborhood just east of downtown Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1830 and affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, it operates as a private university with undergraduate, graduate, and law programs on a compact campus minutes from a major metropolitan medical corridor. Nursing has been part of the university for decades and remains one of its most established professional programs.
The School of Nursing offers a bachelor's degree for students entering the profession, an accelerated option for those already holding a degree in another field, a completion pathway for licensed registered nurses, and graduate study at the master's and doctoral levels for nurses moving into advanced practice, education, or leadership. Undergraduate coursework builds through health assessment, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and nursing care across medical-surgical, maternal-newborn, pediatric, psychiatric-mental health, and community health settings, with simulation lab work preceding clinical rotations. Placements draw on Columbus-area hospitals and health agencies, giving students exposure to large academic centers and community facilities alike. Graduates are prepared to sit for the NCLEX-RN. Compared with Ohio's large public nursing programs, Capital offers smaller cohorts within reach of one of the Midwest's denser hospital markets.
