About Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital

Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital sits on a 147-acre campus about 12 miles west of downtown Chicago, in Hines, Illinois. As the largest VA hospital in the state, treating roughly 57,000 veterans, it offers a 483-bed teaching hospital with services spanning spinal cord injury care, blind rehabilitation, polytrauma, oncology, and a Community Living Center, giving nurse residents broad exposure to specialty care.

The hospital's Post-Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency Program is a 12-month training program for newly graduated RNs, delivered in partnership with Loyola University Chicago's Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing. Residents work under the guidance of preceptors across a range of clinical areas, building competence and confidence during their first year of practice.

As part of the VA's national PB-RNR framework and the VA Great Lakes Health Care Network, the program combines the resources of a large teaching hospital with an established academic partnership, giving new nurses structured mentorship and exposure to complex, specialized patient care early in their careers.
