University of Mississippi Medical Center
The University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing is located on the university's academic health science campus. As the state's only academic health science center, it offers nursing education across every level, from entry-level bachelor's degrees through doctoral study.
Degree options include Traditional, Accelerated, and RN-to-BSN paths at the bachelor's level; an MSN and post-master's certificates for nurses pursuing roles as nurse practitioners, educators, or health care leaders; and a Doctor of Nursing Practice and PhD in Nursing for advanced practice and research careers. A combined BSN-DNP option lets baccalaureate-prepared RNs pursue population-focused nurse practitioner tracks in adult-gerontology acute care, family practice, or family psychiatric and mental health nursing.
The BSN, MSN, DNP, and post-graduate APRN certificate programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and each was awarded the maximum 10-year accreditation term at its most recent review in March 2022. The Nurse Anesthesia track within the BSN-DNP program carries separate accreditation from the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.

A BSN is a 4-year university RN degree, widely preferred by employers and required for many advanced roles, whose graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.
An MSN is a 2–3 year graduate degree that prepares RNs for advanced practice, leadership, and specialized roles such as nurse practitioner or nurse educator.
A DNP is the highest clinical nursing degree, taking 2–4 years, preparing nurses for advanced practice, executive leadership, and policy roles—distinct from the research-focused PhD.
A post-graduate APRN certificate is a 12–24 month credential that lets MSN-prepared nurses add or change an advanced practice specialty without earning a second degree.
