VA Central California Health Care System is part of the VA Sierra Pacific Network. The medical center offers 63 acute care beds for general medical and surgical needs alongside a 60-bed Community Living Center providing skilled nursing and rehabilitation care.
Through its Post-Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency (PB-RNR) Program, the facility supports newly graduated registered nurses during their first year of practice. The program is one of 35 PB-RNR residencies the VA's Office of Academic Affiliations has established system-wide since 2011, and it is federally funded, with residents receiving structured training, mentorship, and support as they transition from nursing school into VA practice.
Because the program follows the VA's national PB-RNR framework, residents benefit from a consistent, federally backed curriculum shared across dozens of VA medical centers. That standardized structure, combined with hands-on experience in both acute and long-term care settings, gives new nurses broad exposure early in their VA careers.
