VA San Diego Healthcare System
VA San Diego Healthcare System offers two distinct entry paths for new graduate registered nurses: a Transition to Practice (TTP) program and a Post-Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency (PB-RNR). Both are designed to support recent BSN graduates as they move from nursing student to confident, practicing RN.
The PB-RNR program runs 12 months and pays a stipend of roughly $67,381 per academic year, along with accrued annual and sick leave from day one and full medical, dental, and vision benefits. Residents receive structured mentoring and gain exposure to the full continuum of veteran-centered care across the health system, rather than training within a single unit or specialty alone.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Alongside its nursing residencies, VA San Diego also operates residency programs in pharmacy, dentistry, and optometry, reflecting the health system's broader role as a major regional training site for health professionals entering VA careers.
