Sweat. Blood. Tears. Not only do certified nursing assistants put so much into the delicate and precious work they perform on the job, assisting patients in performing their activities of daily living (ADLs), but they are also there for the emotional support of those they so selflessly serve. Nursing assistants care for patients in their most vulnerable conditions, often when they can no longer care for themselves and often at the end stages of their life. That's right. CNAs are often the ones at a patient's bedside, holding their hand as they take their last breath, in many cases without any family members present. Furthermore, CNAs are often subjected to workplace injury, and The National Nursing Assistant Survey found more than half of all nursing assistants have been injured at least once on the job. It's a noble profession, and CNAs must adhere to licensing requirements to maintain their licenses and continue to provide care to patients who need it most.

A Little Background on Houston, Texas

Houston is the largest city in Texas. Subsequently, there are many job opportunities in the Greater Houston area, for CNAs which includes The Woodlands-Sugar Land area, making it the fifth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. So what does it mean to work CNA jobs per diem, and how can it help nursing professionals with scheduling flexibility and freedom? Read on to learn how to find PRN jobs for CNAs in the Houston metropolitan area and how Nursa™ makes searching for short-term shifts easier than ever.

How Can I Find Per Diem Jobs for CNAs?

To work per diem as a certified nursing assistant means that a clinician is available for shift work while not being bound to a schedule or formal employment. This gives CNAs the freedom and flexibility to pick up shifts on the go and be open to last-minute jobs in Houston that may come their way.

Furthermore, working per diem as a CNA can be great for those who want to keep their skills sharp while making good money, but aren't necessarily looking for a full-time job. Saying that, even if a medical professional has other part-time employment, working per diem as a CNA allows them to pick up extra shifts easily. If a CNA is looking for short-term shifts, apps such as NURSA ™ can help facilitate the communication between healthcare institutions and clinicians looking for high pay and this type of scheduling flexibility.

What Are The Benefits of CNA Jobs and Working Per Diem?

Can you work per diem as a CNA? Absolutely! Working as a CNA on a per diem basis has become a popular alternative for medical professionals looking to get their feet wet in the healthcare industry without having to adhere to a full-time schedule.

That being said, the first step to working per diem as a CNA is getting a nursing assistant certification, which involves completing a state-approved training program as well as passing the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam. Once an individual completes this certificate, they can go on to find per diem CNA jobs either by contacting an agency, directly contacting local nursing homes, or taking advantage of short-term staffing apps like NURSA ™.

CNAs have been working per diem for years, but it's only recently that even more opportunities are available in this field. This may be partially due to a hospital looking for extra staff to cover night shifts during flu season, or because they need extra help in the ER. Needless to say, the coronavirus pandemic(COVID-19) has also created a surge in demand for workers in the healthcare industry. As a result, many medical facilities are currently hiring CNAs on a per diem basis. Consequently, now is an excellent time for nursing professionals to start searching for work as a per diem nursing assistant jobs in Texas.

What Does Working PRN as a CNA Mean?

Working PRN as a CNA means that a nursing professional works shifts on an as-needed basis, or "per diem," instead of having a full-time or part-time position. And while the job description might be the same as any other CNA position including providing patient care, and supporting medical staff, it's important to note that there are distinct differences between working per diem and having a permanent, contracted position.

That being said, working per diem comes with a fair amount of freedom and flexibility. With per diem work, a clinician can work shifts whenever they want, and they get to choose the schedule that's right for them. The best part is that most per diem positions are available on short notice. This means that a medical professional can pick up shifts in as little as 48 hours.
