Intermountain facilities may require a department orientation checklist before approving clinicians to pick up shifts in a particular department. Where most credentials attach to a building, this one attaches to a unit inside it.
Why a unit rather than a facility
Departments inside one hospital operate differently enough that a single orientation would be either too general to help or too long to be practical. Splitting the record by department keeps it specific. The consequence for a clinician is that working two units at the same address can mean two separate records, each named for its department.
What a checklist format changes
Courses are self-paced and finished alone. Checklists are worked through item by item, typically with someone confirming each one, which makes the record a set of verifications rather than a completion. It also introduces a dependency: the clinician is not the only person whose time the record needs.
The kind of detail it captures
Practical, local, and unglamorous. Supply locations, handoff routine, the documentation system in use, the escalation path. None of it tests clinical judgment, all of it is what makes the first hour on an unfamiliar unit workable. That focus is also why it stays with the organization rather than transferring anywhere, and why it sits outside the credentials that travel with you between employers.
Planning around the sign-off
Because completion depends on someone else, a checklist is worth raising earlier than a self-paced record. For clinicians picking up per diem work across several units, checking what is already on file before requesting is the difference between a smooth start and a delayed one.
Adding the credential to your profile
- Navigate to your Profile in the Nursa app.
- Locate Credentials on your profile view.
- Select the "+" button.
- Select "Add Credential."
- Select the credential you want to add.
- Follow the instructions to add your credential.
