Joint Commission | Clinical Staff Compliance

The Joint Commission (TJC) sets national standards for patient safety and quality of care across accredited hospitals and healthcare facilities. Joint Commission Clinical Staff Compliance documentation verifies that direct-care clinicians—whether permanent employees or PRN staff—have completed all mandatory background checks, license primary source verifications, safety orientations, and core competency evaluations required by accredited organizations.

What Does Joint Commission Compliance Cover?

Joint Commission HR standards (such as HR.01.01.01 and HR.02.01.01) require comprehensive documentation before a clinician delivers patient care.

Credentialing and Verification

  • Primary Source Verification: Direct confirmation of active state licenses, certifications, and educational degrees.
  • Background & Exclusion Screenings: Criminal background checks, drug screenings, and queries through OIG/SAM and state abuse registries.

Orientation and Clinical Competency

  • Unit-Specific Competency: Validation of clinical skills relevant to assigned specialty areas (e.g., ICU, Med-Surg, ER).
  • Facility Orientation: Documentation of facility policies, emergency response codes, and EMR system training.

Safety and Infection Control

  • Patient Safety Standards: Training in National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs), medication administration protocols, and fall prevention.
  • Infection Prevention: Hand hygiene compliance, isolation precautions, and proper PPE utilization.

Why Is Joint Commission Compliance Required?

Accredited healthcare organizations must demonstrate that all personnel providing care meet identical standards of education, training, and competency. Completing Joint Commission compliance documentation maintains hospital survey readiness, protects patient health, and allows facilities to maintain their accreditation status.

What Does It Look Like on a Shift?

Maintaining compliant documentation ensures you can hit the floor immediately upon arrival. You can seamlessly navigate facility protocols, operate specialized equipment, and deliver safe, high-quality care that aligns with national safety benchmarks.

Testimonial about Nursa from the real users

Nursa is always there for me!”

“I love the easy user-friendly app with clear pictures and information about a facility. I work with other agencies and the Nursa app is most visually appealing! The best thing about Nursa though is the professional attitude of the staff whenever you call or need help. Again, surpasses other agencies”
