Medication Assistant Certification Endorsement (Medtech)

Facilities may ask for a medication assistant certification endorsement before approving clinicians to pick up shifts involving medication administration. The word endorsement signals how the credential works: it attaches to something a clinician already holds rather than standing on its own.

An endorsement builds on a base credential

Some states structure medication authority as an addition to an existing certification rather than as a separate one. Under that model, a nursing assistant completes additional training and testing, and the resulting authority is recorded against the credential already held. The base certification remains the foundation, and the endorsement extends what it permits.

Why the structure matters practically

Two consequences follow. If the base credential lapses, the endorsement attached to it generally cannot stand alone. And renewal tends to run on the base credential's cycle rather than a separate one, which means tracking a single expiration rather than two. Clinicians who keep their records current usually find this simpler than holding unrelated certifications.

Naming varies by state

Medication assistant, medication aide, and med tech describe overlapping territory, and whether a state issues a standalone certification or an endorsement on an existing one differs as well. A credential list uses the name that applies locally, so matching what a posting names rather than what a certificate says elsewhere is the reliable approach.

What it authorizes

The scope comes from state regulation, not from an employer, and it is generally narrower than a nursing license: a defined set of medication tasks under licensed supervision. What a facility asks reflects both that scope and the work a particular shift involves.

How to add this credential to your Nursa profile

For an endorsement, this generally means uploading documentation showing it recorded against your base credential.

  1. Navigate to your Profile in the Nursa app.
  2. Locate Credentials on your profile view.
  3. Select the "+" button.
  4. Select "Add Credential."
  5. Select the credential you want to add.
  6. Follow the instructions to add your credential.

Depending on the credential type, this may require uploading proof of the certification, reviewing and signing a document, or completing a facility-required training in ShiftReady. ShiftReady is an online learning management platform that offers clinicians access to a library of third-party training resources.

Nursa is always there for me!”

“I love the easy user-friendly app with clear pictures and information about a facility. I work with other agencies and the Nursa app is most visually appealing! The best thing about Nursa though is the professional attitude of the staff whenever you call or need help. Again, surpasses other agencies”
