Located in northeastern Tennessee, Bristol is a charming small town with a population of just under 25,000. It is known as the "birthplace of country music" and is famous for its historic downtown area, lively music scene, and rich heritage. Its prime location in the Tri-Cities region, which includes Bristol, Kingsport, and Johnson City, makes it a desirable place to live and work for many individuals, including licensed practical nurses (LPNs).

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for LPNs in Bristol. The low cost of living and friendly community make Bristol an attractive place to call home for LPNs looking to advance their careers while enjoying a comfortable lifestyle.

But what is it really like to live and work as an LPN in Bristol? In this article, we will explore the life of an LPN working in Bristol, the advantages of working per diem (PRN) shifts, the required skills and characteristics for success, and how Nursa is connecting healthcare facilities with qualified nurses.

The Life of an LPN Working in Bristol

LPNs in Bristol have the opportunity to work in a variety of healthcare settings. The city is home to several renowned healthcare facilities.

LPNs in Bristol enjoy a relatively low-stress work environment compared to other healthcare professionals. They work under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and other healthcare professionals like nursing assistants (CNAs), providing basic nursing care to patients. This includes administering medications, monitoring patients' vital signs, and assisting with daily tasks.

One of the most appealing aspects of working as an LPN in Bristol is the sense of community and camaraderie among healthcare professionals. The city's small-town feel allows for more personal connections and a supportive work environment. LPNs in Bristol also have the opportunity to work closely with patients and build meaningful relationships with them.

Why Are Per Diem Shifts Popular Among LPNs?

Working per diem shifts in Bristol offers several advantages to LPNs. Some of these advantages include:

  • Flexibility: LPNs can choose their own schedule and work as much or as little as they want.
  • Higher pay: Per diem shifts often offer higher pay rates than permanent positions. LPNs can also earn extra money by picking up shifts on weekends or holidays.
  • Variety: By working PRN shifts, LPNs have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of healthcare settings. This not only makes the work more interesting but also helps in career advancement.

For many LPNs in Bristol, working per diem shifts has become a popular way to supplement their income. Per diem shifts, also known as PRN shifts, are temporary shifts that allow healthcare professionals to work on an as-needed basis. This will enable them to have a more flexible schedule and the freedom to choose when and where they want to work.

PRN Nursing Is Thriving in Bristol for LPNs

As mentioned earlier, the demand for nurses in Bristol has increased in recent years. According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, RNs and LPNs are among the top 10 occupations in Tennessee with the most job growth. This is due to the aging population, increased chronic health conditions, and the need for more healthcare professionals to provide quality care.

While PRN nursing may seem like an appealing career choice, it is only suitable for some LPNs. To be successful as a PRN nurse in Bristol, specific characteristics and skills are required, including:

  • Flexibility: PRN nurses must be willing to work different shifts, sometimes at short notice. They must also be open to working in various healthcare settings.
  • Adaptability: Working in different healthcare settings means dealing with different policies, procedures, and work environments. PRN nurses must be adaptable and able to adjust to new situations quickly.
  • Good time management: PRN nurses must be able to manage their time effectively to ensure they complete their tasks within the allotted time. They must also be able to prioritize their duties and multitask when necessary.

With the shortage of nurses in Bristol and the surrounding areas, healthcare facilities are turning to PRN nurses to fill in nursing gaps. This has created a need for flexible nurses who are willing to work as needed, making PRN nursing a thriving field in Bristol.

Experience Life as a PRN Nurse on the Go

The responsibilities and tasks of PRN nurses in Bristol are similar to those of full-time LPNs. However, PRN nurses work in different healthcare settings, so their tasks may vary depending on where they work. Some typical responsibilities of PRN nurses in Bristol include:

  • Administering treatments as prescribed by a physician.
  • Monitoring patients' vital signs.
  • Assisting patients with daily tasks.
  • Educating patients and their families.
  • Assisting with minor medical procedures, such as wound care and catheterization.

While working as a PRN LPN in Bristol can be challenging at times, the rewards far outweigh the difficulties. The greatest challenge for PRN nurses in Bristol is adapting to different healthcare settings and policies, which can sometimes be overwhelming. However, these challenges can be overcome with good time management and adaptability.
