About Auburn University at Montgomery

AUM Nursing is structured as a limited-access professional program. Students first enter as "Pre-Nursing" majors to complete four semesters of core science and general education requirements. Admission to the upper-division clinical sequence (the final five semesters) is highly competitive and requires a separate application. The selection process is holistic, evaluating applicants based on their prerequisite GPA (with heavy emphasis on math and sciences), TEAS exam scores, and a formal interview. In addition to the traditional BSN, AUM offers a fully online RN-to-BSN track and a Concurrent Enrollment pathway, allowing community college students to earn their BSN just one semester after finishing their Associate degree.

The program is centered in the Nursing Resource Center (NRC) within Moore Hall, which features three specialized environments: a Skills and Assessment Lab, a Computer Lab, and a Simulation Lab. The Simulation Lab is equipped with medium-fidelity and high-fidelity manikins, including the SimMan 3G, which can breathe, pulse, and vocalize. Students rotate through premier clinical sites such as Baptist Health and Jackson Hospital. A unique hallmark of the AUM experience is the Healthy Kids Outreach Initiative, where nursing students provide health screenings to thousands of underserved schoolchildren across Alabama, bridging the gap between classroom theory and public health service.

The program’s success is reflected in its stellar outcomes; beyond the 100% NCLEX pass rate for the 2024 cohort, the program maintained a 97.06% pass rate overall for the most recent calendar year. Compared to other public universities in Alabama, AUM is distinguished by its 10-year CCNE accreditation with zero findings and its status as the only provider of a "Concurrent BSN" in the region. The college also offers graduate-level excellence with its MSN (Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator tracks) and DNP programs, fostering a culture of lifelong professional advancement.

Programs

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

A BSN is a 4-year university RN degree, widely preferred by employers and required for many advanced roles, whose graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

An MSN is a 2–3 year graduate degree that prepares RNs for advanced practice, leadership, and specialized roles such as nurse practitioner or nurse educator.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

A DNP is the highest clinical nursing degree, taking 2–4 years, preparing nurses for advanced practice, executive leadership, and policy roles—distinct from the research-focused PhD.

Post-Graduate APRN Certificate

A post-graduate APRN certificate is a 12–24 month credential that lets MSN-prepared nurses add or change an advanced practice specialty without earning a second degree.
