About Spring Hill College

The nursing curriculum at Spring Hill is structured into two distinct phases: a pre-professional phase and a professional clinical phase. Students typically apply to the professional phase during the second semester of their sophomore year. Admission is selective, requiring a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and a composite ACT score of 21 (or equivalent). The program is noted for its intimate learning environment, maintaining a 4-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio in simulation settings. In addition to the traditional BSN, the college offers a fully online MSN program, which received full CCNE accreditation in 2023, providing a direct pathway for graduates to advance into leadership and educator roles.

A major evolution for the program is the Health and Science Innovation Center, set to open for the Fall 2026 semester. This facility will house a massive 5,000-square-foot Nursing Simulation Suite, including four high-fidelity simulation labs, an Anatomage (virtual dissection) lab, and dedicated debriefing rooms. Currently, students utilize high-fidelity pediatric and birthing simulators that mimic real-life physiological crises. Clinical rotations are conducted at premier regional facilities, including USA Health University Hospital (the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center) and Mobile Infirmary. The program’s rigor is reflected in its outcomes; beyond the 100% pass rate in 2025, the college has maintained a 92% job placement rate over the last five years, with many students receiving multiple offers before graduation.

Compared to larger public universities in Alabama, Spring Hill stands out for its Jesuit values, which integrate social justice and ethics into clinical decision-making. The "O’Malley School of Nursing" (as it is often colloquially known within the region) also offers a Concurrent Enrollment option for community college students, allowing them to work toward their BSN while completing their Associate degree, significantly shortening the time to enter the workforce as a baccalaureate-prepared nurse.
