Milligan University

The nursing curriculum at Milligan is designed to be completed in four years, with students beginning nursing-specific coursework as early as their sophomore year. Unlike many larger public universities that require a separate, highly competitive application for "upper-division" clinicals, Milligan students who maintain a 3.0 prerequisite GPA and meet the TEAS exam benchmarks can move directly into the professional phase. The program is deeply integrated with the university’s liberal arts core, requiring students to blend scientific expertise with courses in humanities and biblical learning to foster a holistic approach to patient care.

Clinical training is a hallmark of the Milligan experience. The university is a key partner in the Appalachian Highlands Center for Nursing Advancement, a $10 million initiative with Ballad Health designed to strengthen the regional nursing pipeline. Students rotate through major medical centers such as Johnson City Medical Center (a Level 1 Trauma Center) and Franklin Woods Community Hospital, as well as rural clinics and school health settings. On campus, students utilize the simulation labs in Hardin Hall, which feature high-fidelity manikins and simulated hospital suites. These labs allow students to practice critical reasoning in high-stakes scenarios—such as cardiac arrest or emergency childbirth—before ever entering a hospital room.
